New Urban Arts’ Annual Campaign makes our nationally recognized arts programs available to the teenagers who need them most. It gives them the tools they need to lead creative and meaningful lives. In 2010 we aim to raise $80,000 through our Campaign.

Your gift matters: Our Annual Campaign runs with our fiscal year (July 1 to June 30) and is supported by over 250 individuals like you. Our annual campaign has grown from a few thousand dollars just a few years ago to a reliable annual source of income that supports almost a third of our budget. This is the moment to support the next generation of creative, critical thinkers, and invest our hope in the future.

Your gift to our Annual Campaign provides young people...

...the opportunity to work directly alongside and be mentored by accomplished, caring and well-trained artist mentors
  • Our Artist Mentors share a wide range of experiences with younger artists. Mentors are college students, graduate students, professional artists, public school teachers, art therapists, and college faculty among others.
  • Arts mentoring positions are competitive -- last year we received over 40 applications for only 15 positions. Young people interview and select all of our artist mentors.
  • Artist Mentors receive over 30 hours of professional development including 1:1 coaching and workshops on youth development, community arts practice and education.
...access to a well-equipped interdisciplinary art studio and gallery
  • New Urban Arts buys art supplies for more than 300 high school students from over 10 Providence public schools.
  • We maintain a screen print studio, a digital media lab and black and white photography darkroom.
  • Students receive frequent opportunities to perform, exhibit and publish their work. Our public programs attracted over 2,000 visitors last year.
...high quality learning and employment experiences during the summer
  • Our five-week summer program provides 30 paid student internships where young people work closely with artists and scholars on group and independent projects and lead creative arts workshops for the public.
... free intensive college advising services
  • All New Urban Arts students who have participated for at least one year are eligible for college advising in their senior year and post graduation support through our partnership with College Visions.
  • 100% of our seniors in this program gain admission to college annually.

  • Studio study buddies provide students intensive and targeted 1:1 tutoring support, homework help and test preparation.

Since 2005, the average number of youth using our art studio every month has almost tripled, from 44 in 2005 to 116 in 2008. Despite this increase in participation, we've been able to keep our Artist Mentor to student ratio below 7:1 and continue to provide high-quality relationships for all of our students. Last year:
