Sophia Mackenzie, Director of Development

Sophia believes that philanthropy is a joyful and generous act of giving back, a way to engage deeply with our passions and support our values, and an important tool for investing in a sustainable future.

Sophia has worked in nonprofit arts administration and fundraising for almost a decade. A recent transplant to the east coast, Sophia comes most recently from Portland, Oregon, where she worked with such organizations as the Portland Art Museum, Northwest Film Center, and Northwest Children’s Theater and School. She holds a B.S. in Political Science from Southern Oregon University and an M.A. in Sustainable Businesses and Communities from Goddard College. Most recently, Sophia completed a Professional Fundraising Certificate Program through Boston University.

Sophia is a self-described creative “dabbler.” She enjoys photography, writing, sewing, and her favorite activity–bargain hunting for cast aside objects, clothing, and furniture pieces. Other favorite activities include yoga, hiking, biking, and spending time with her husband Tom. Their shared wanderlust keeps them traveling and exploring new places.
