Maria Canada

Maria is from the Pacific Northwest, specifically Seattle, and with that she brings her a love of grey rainy days and delicious coffee delights. She brings fresh excitement and pragmatic experience to sewing instruction to New Urban Arts.

Maria has been selected to participate in art exhibitions, fashion shows, and competitions, including Project Red Dress in Seattle and Project Beethoven at Boston’s Symphony Hall. Maria’s dedication and diligence have led to multiple scholarships and awards. In addition to these honors she also won a globally coveted acceptance into the womens’ wear pathway at London’s Central Saint Martins, the worlds leading fashion design university. 

She often expresses political commentary and a focus on sustainability and global concern through her artistic practice—always channeling curiosity through shape and form in a variety of mediums. Maria is currently pursuing a dual major degree at RISD in Apparel Design and Sculpture, where she is a Resident Advisor facilitating community engagement activities and student life on campus. Maria has recently broadened her interests to include community development, arts education and believes that all individuals have the capacity for personal growth through art and design.
