Gabrielle Tavares, Administrative Coordinator

Gabby (she/her) is a South Providence native and multi-hyphenate: a bridge builder, growth strategist, wordsmith, and facilitator.

Gabby has deep personal connections to New Urban Arts, having attended as a student during her years at Classical High School and serving on the Studio Team Advisory Board (STAB) in 2015. She has also held space at NUA in different capacities, including Summer Program Assistant (2017), Creative Writing Mentor (2017-2018), and Interim Financial Operations Associate (2019).

Her professional experience spans the nonprofit sector, legal advocacy, business development at tech startups,and talent and culture. She holds dual Bachelor’s degrees in Sociology and Africana Studies. She is a 2024 RIBBA LEAP Fellow, a 2020 New Leaders Council Fellow, and a member of the 2014 ProvSlam Youth Team.

As a diasporic Cape Verdean poet and essayist, Gabby’s creative work explores themes of femininity, grief, memory, colonialism, and the complexities of identity and belonging. Through her work, Gabby intertwines personal reflection with broader cultural analysis, creating a space where individual experience and collective history converge.

Outside of work, she enjoys exploring thrift stores, watching true crime, and dining with friends. She’s a fan of spicy noodles, seafood, and a good deli sandwich. She finds peace in yoga, cold plunges, and the beach.
