Dear Friend,
Thank you for being an important part of our New Urban Arts community. Your support makes New Urban Arts’ programs possible for the more than 700 young people who walk through our doors each year.
Now, as our fiscal year comes to a close, we need your help to ensure that youth have access to the programs and mentorship they need.
NUA alum and volunteer artist mentor, Sierra, recently shared a poem about how New Urban Arts became her second home:
A teacher and a friend, a mentor and a peer, A building made a home. Google search couldn’t tell me how to grow. My potential to be perfect stunted personal growth. But you stopped me, showed me controlled chaos, radical revolution, how to create change through art. I learned how to love myself behind these walls, bandaged my scars and nurtured my hurt. Gave me room and a space to flourish. Art became my barrier, protection from the harsh outside. Outside burned like hell, this was heaven on earth. A heaven for loners, misfits, the bullied, the nobodies, the creative, the talented, the remarkable, the gifted. The labels we were given didn’t matter here. It was home for all.
Sierra has captured what many students share with us—that New Urban Arts is a home away from home. Your support makes it possible. Please give today!
Best wishes for the summer,
Daniel Schleifer Executive Director
