Malda Smadi

Malda Smadi is a multidisciplinary artist and cultural worker. She was born in Syria, raised in Dubai, and moved to Providence for an MFA in Painting from RISD in 2021. Since graduating, she started working at RISD as a project coordinator managing the RISD Craft fair, while maintaining a studio, and meeting other artists and checking out art and cultural spaces in Rhode Island, New York, Massachusetts, and North Carolina. Malda’s practice involves sculpture, painting, installation, and performance, and is rooted in making and experimentation, always curious and shifting. The body is central to her work where she explores both its interiority and exteriority through ideas of dislocation and belonging.
