Jennifer Recinos is a first-generation Guatemalan-American, born and raised in
Providence, Rhode Island. In 2013, she was awarded the prestigious Eli Segal Citizen
Leader Fellowship in recognition of her commitment to public service. She earned dual
B.A. degrees in International Studies and Film + Interactive Media Studies from Brandeis University in 2014.
Following graduation, Jennifer served as a college adviser at the Providence Career and Technical Academy (PCTA) through the College Advising Corps, in partnership with the Swearer Center at Brown University. From 2021 to 2023, she served as the Associate Director of First Generation Experience at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), where she led and expanded the Project Thrive program, supporting first-generation college students in the arts. During her time at RISD, she also co-directed the First-Generation College Pre-Orientation Program (FGC POP), helping to build a strong foundation for incoming students.
With over a decade of experience at the intersection of higher education, college access, and the arts, Jennifer has contributed to institutions such as Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt), RISD, and Emerson College. She currently serves as the Associate Director of International Recruitment at Emerson College in Boston.
Jennifer is also deeply engaged in community advocacy. She is the Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council, where she has served since 2020, and a member of the Executive Steering Committee of Central Providence Unidos, where she advocates for housing justice, fair wages, quality healthcare, and education.
In her free time, you can find Jennifer biking around Providence, documenting everyday life through photography, or walking her one-year-old pup, Bustelo—named after her favorite coffee. She lives in the city’s West End neighborhood.
