Jordan Seaberry works as the Co-Director of the US Department of Arts & Culture. He has also worked at the Nonviolence Institute as Director of Public Policy and Advocacy and as the Homicide Victim Advocate. Born and raised on the Southside of Chicago, he first came to Providence to attend Rhode Island School of Design. Taking time away from RISD, he became deeply involved with the Providence social justice community, working as the prisoners’ rights organizer at Direct Action for Rights and Equality; he then returned to RISD to complete his BFA in painting. He is a member of Mayor Jorge Elorza’s Advisory Council to Reduce Gun Violence, and the Governor’s Commission on Prejudice and Bias. He maintains a painting studio in Providence, and has displayed works at institutions such as the RISD Museum, the DeCordova Museum, The Boston Center for the Arts, and exhibition spaces in various other cities including LA, Chicago, Philadelphia, and New York. He was 2016 recipient of the highly competitive MacColl Johnson Fellowship in the visual arts from the Rhode Island Foundation.
