Jessica Kion, Resident Artist Mentor in Music

Jessica grew up in a musical family playing jazz with her saxophonist brother at local shows and starting her first rock band in middle school. She attended Berklee College of Music earning a B.A. in Songwriting. She joined the band Bent Knee in 2011. They wrote and recorded five albums together and toured in the U.S., CAN, Europe, and the UK extensively in the 11 years she was with the band. She performs in her band, Justice Cow and plays locally.

Jessica has performed around 400 live shows, makes YouTube videos, animates and films music videos, and hosts online songwriting challenges. She has collaborated with her husband Ben Levin, Adam Neely, toured with The Dillinger Escape Plan, Aimee Nolte, Cory Wong, Harry Mack, Apartment Sessions, Boston Conservatory’s Percussion Department, Boston’s Stave Series, Berklee College of Music, Big Nice Studio in Lincoln, RI, and the Record Co. in Boston.

As NUA’s Assistant RAM in Music, she hopes to remove barriers that exist in learning music and encourage youth to experiment boldly with sound.

Jessica especially loves the music of Sufjan Stevens, Big Thief, Bon Iver, and Beyonce. Some other mediums she explores are: drawing, watercolor, A.I. exploration, digital art, block printing, 3D digital artwork, and video. She enjoys biking, cooking, improvising with friends, walking her Staffie named Hineni, and playing Magic the Gathering with her husband.
